The Cabinet has approved the appointment of Chantanan Wannakejorn as the new Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, replacing the incumbent who will retire on 30 September this year.
On 18 August 2026, a report from the Government House stated that the Cabinet meeting, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn—standing in for Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul, who was on an overseas mission—considered and deliberated. They resolved to approve the appointment of Mr. Chantanan Wannakejorn, Special Expert attached to the Prime Minister's Office, as the new Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Energy. This appointment replaces Mr. Prasert Sinsukprasert, the current Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, who is set to retire on 30 September.
Last week, there were reports of a planned transfer of Mr. Natthaphon Rangsitpol, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Industry, to become Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Energy; however, the transfer could not be finalized due to procedural issues. This week, Mr. Chantanan's name was proposed for the Ministry of Energy post, while the Ministry of Industry's Permanent Secretary position remains unfilled, awaiting the Prime Minister's return from overseas.
Mr. Chantanan previously held the position of Secretary-General of the Office of Agricultural Economics and served as Chairman of the Metropolitan Waterworks Authority.
