
Anutin toured Sydney's Thai Town, meeting the Thai community and promoting the area as a cultural center in Australia, stopping to sample food at a popular Thai restaurant.
At 11:40 a.m. local time on 18 Aug 2026 in Sydney, Australia, which is three hours behind Thailand, Ratchada Thanadirek, spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, announced that Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and his delegation visited Sydney's Thai Town to meet the Thai community. The visit was hosted by The Right Honourable Clover Moore AO, Lord Mayor of Sydney, who welcomed them and led a tour of Thai-owned shops in the area. They also shared lunch with the Prime Minister at Doodee King restaurant.
The Prime Minister praised Sydney for supporting the development of Thai Town and for initiatives to elevate the area as Australia's Thai cultural center, including the creation of public artworks and cultural landmarks.
He highlighted the success of the Sydney Lunar Festival, especially the Lunar Streets event in Haymarket, which provides space for diverse Asian communities to celebrate their cultural heritage. He thanked the Lord Mayor for enabling Thai community participation in these activities, exemplifying strong cooperation between the Thai community and Sydney city.
Ratchada Thanadirek, spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, stated, “Recently, Thai Town has gained increased attention through social media, particularly from content creators in food and travel. This exposure has helped spread Thai culture widely and made Thai Town better known. It has also attracted visitors and created opportunities for local businesses and entrepreneurs.”
Along the route, members of the Thai community gathered to welcome the Prime Minister and his delegation. The Prime Minister greeted them warmly, posed for photos, toured shops and restaurants, sampled Thai food, and spoke with Thai business owners throughout the visit.
