Cabinet Approves Draft Agreement on Thai-New Zealand Cultural Cooperation

The Cabinet approved the drafting of a cultural cooperation agreement between the Ministry of Culture of the Kingdom of Thailand and the Ministry of Culture and Heritage of New Zealand.

On 18 Aug 2026 GMT+7, Ms. Ploytale Lakshmisangchan, Deputy Spokesperson of the Prime Minister's Office, revealed that the Cabinet approved the drafting of a cultural cooperation agreement between the Ministry of Culture of the Kingdom of Thailand and the Ministry of Culture and Heritage of New Zealand (the draft agreement). If wording changes in the draft do not affect the core content or conflict with Thailand's interests, the Ministry of Culture may proceed without further Cabinet approval. The Cabinet also approved the Minister of Culture or an authorized representative to sign the draft agreement on behalf of Thailand, as proposed by the Ministry of Culture.

Ms. Ploytale said the drafting of the agreement is an initiative by the Thai side aimed at strengthening bilateral cultural ties between Thailand and New Zealand. It also marks the celebration of the 70th anniversary of Thailand-New Zealand diplomatic relations in 2026. The draft agreement will enhance and develop cooperation in arts and culture between the two countries based on reciprocity and mutual benefits, helping to promote closer people-to-people relations as a foundation for future development of Thailand-New Zealand relations.
