Bangkok Suspends 3 Officials Involved in Pink Card Fraud Scheme Pending Investigation

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration has ordered the suspension of three officials involved in the fraudulent issuance of pink identity cards, effective immediately on 18 Aug 2026, while launching a thorough investigation into irregular resident registrations across all 50 districts.

On 18 Aug 2026, Pol Gen Adis Ngamjitsuksri, advisor to the Governor of Bangkok, disclosed details of the joint operation called “Sweeping Houses in the Heart of the Capital” to search and arrest suspects involved in the fraudulent issuance of non-Thai nationality identity cards, or pink cards (number 7), to children of foreigners. He said Governor Chadchart Sittipunt has urgently ordered decisive action to crack down on this corruption.

The directive instructed the directors of Din Daeng and Lak Si districts to consider suspending three implicated officials, effective from 18 Aug 2026. Simultaneously, the Bangkok Permanent Secretary has signed to appoint a committee to conduct a serious disciplinary investigation against these three officials, to be carried out alongside criminal proceedings managed by investigators at Din Daeng Metropolitan Police Station.

Moreover, the Din Daeng district office was urged to expedite the review of all resident registration changes and the documentation for identity cards and pink cards issued retrospectively, focusing especially on cases with ID numbers starting with 7. Preliminary reports indicate that 47 flats in Din Daeng, including those on Prachasongkroh Sois 1, 5, 6, 7, 11, and Mit Maitri Road, have names of foreigners registered in groups of 16 or more, totaling 1,468 individuals.

At the same time, all 50 district directors have been ordered to rigorously audit resident registration data within their jurisdictions, paying particular attention to cases involving unusually large numbers of residents registering moves into houses or apartment buildings.

Pol Gen Adis emphasized that if property owners or the public observe any suspicious behavior regarding resident registration changes, they can report tips confidentially through the Traffy Fondue system, with Bangkok Metropolitan Administration guaranteeing the anonymity of informants.
