19 Aug 2026 GMT+7 Mr. Nattapong Ruangpanyawut, party-list MP, leader of the People’s Party, and opposition leader in the House of Representatives, shared updates on the situation regarding flooding in Pu District, Nan Province, which is currently severe, expressing deep concern for all affected residents.
Mr. Nattapong added that following his recent visit to Nan Province, he heard consistent feedback from locals about the need for a systematic approach to water issues, specifically through a project to improve and expand the "Thong Noi Weir." Furthermore, this project has already been included in the draft budget bill for fiscal year 2027. Since the government has full authority to manage the project before the budget bill is reviewed by parliament, he recommends that the government urgently revise the weir’s design to truly address water management needs, emphasizing expansion across the entire river width and advising against focusing on electricity generation.
According to explanations from local agencies, the actual site conditions are unsuitable for power generation. Therefore, redesigning the project to prioritize irrigation and comprehensive water management will provide the greatest benefits to local residents.
