Minister Chaiyachonok Warns of Floods and Landslides, Urges Caution for Northern Travelers

Minister Chaiyachonok of the Digital Economy and Society Ministry expressed concern for people traveling in northern Thailand following flooding in Nan province. He reported that the Meteorological Department has issued warnings about floods and landslides, emphasizing coordination among all agencies and expressing confidence that the response will be better than in previous incidents.


At 10:30 a.m. on 19 August 2026 GMT+7 Mr. Chaiyachonok Chidchob, Minister of Digital Economy and Society (Minister of DE) commented on the flash floods and flooding in Pua District, Nan Province, stating that the Ministry of DE has provided information through the Meteorological Department and coordinated with the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) and the Ministry of Interior to prepare response measures.

, concurrently, Mr. Chaiyachonok warned the public that from 17 to 21 August 2026, strong winds are expected in the upper northern region, posing risks of heavy rain and landslides, urging travelers to exercise special caution.

Regarding whether there has been special coordination with agencies for response, Mr. Chaiyachonok stated that cooperation has been established with the Hydro Informatics Institute (HII) under the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI), as well as with several other agencies. Coordination with Mr. Jeset Thaiset, Deputy Minister of Interior, and DDPM is ongoing. All parties have consistently prioritized this issue, so they believe the response this time will certainly be better than previous occasions.
