PDRC and Reserve Senators Urge EC Not to Delay SENA Election Rigging Case Demand Court Submission

The People's Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) urged the Election Commission (EC) to follow Subcommittee No. 26's resolution on the SENA election rigging case involving 229 individuals, insisting the case must be forwarded to the court. They warned against repeating the mistakes of the former commission under Pol. Gen. Wasana. Meanwhile, Reserve Senators called on the EC not to delay the case file and suggested it be sent to the court for consideration immediately. Tags: [Election Commission, SENA election rigging, People's Democratic Reform Committee, Reserve Senators, legal proceedings]

On 19 Aug 2026 at 10:00 a.m., the People's Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC), led by Mr. Pichit Chaimongkol and Dr. Tun Sittisamwong, submitted a letter urging the Election Commission (EC) to transparently handle the SENA election rigging case after over two years of investigation. Mr. Pichit said he learned the EC plans to prosecute only a few low-level individuals involved in the SENA election fraud, none of whom are current senators. He claimed that this case is not just about rigging the SENA election but also involves internal collusion within the EC itself, as Subcommittee No. 36 overturned the findings of Subcommittee No. 26. He described this as a grand collusion akin to election fraud or local exam cheating. He warned that if the current EC does not want to repeat the fate of Pol. Gen. Wasana, who was imprisoned, they should promptly act and base their decision on Subcommittee No. 26's resolution.Tags: [PDRC, Election Commission, election fraud, SENA, legal investigation]

The Reserve Senators group, led by former Police Lieutenant General Kamrop Panyakao and colleagues, submitted a letter urging the Election Commission to accelerate the handling of corruption cases related to the 2024 Senate election and to promptly forward the case to the Supreme Court's election division for legal adjudication. They noted that the EC's review has dragged on for over two years and two months since the Senate election, with the case still not before the court despite ongoing complaints and evidence. They requested the EC provide a clear update on progress. The case involves 229 accused individuals, including politicians, party executives, and 138 sitting senators, impacting public confidence in the electoral system. The group emphasized the need for transparent, swift, and verifiable proceedings, clarifying that their call is not a prejudgment of guilt but a demand for full examination of evidence.Tags: [Reserve Senators, Election Commission, Senate election, corruption, legal process]

After submitting their letter to the Election Commission, the Reserve Senators proceeded to file an additional letter with the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) to expedite Special Case No. 24/2568 concerning charges of gang involvement and money laundering. The Attorney General had previously returned the case for further investigation. They also submitted letters urging prompt action to the Office of the Attorney General and Deputy Prime Minister Pakorn Nilprapunt, who serves as chair of the Special Case Committee, requesting that the case proceed according to legal procedures.Tags: [Reserve Senators, Department of Special Investigation, Attorney General, Deputy Prime Minister, special investigation, money laundering]
