Prime Minister Supports “TH-AI Passport” to Enhance Thai Access to Global Technology

The Prime Minister confirms that the “TH-AI Passport” project helps develop Thai people's ability to access quality AI and insists it is not a pointless initiative.

On 19 Aug 2026 GMT+7, Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul spoke about the first day of registration for the TH-AI Passport project, stating it aims to enhance Thai people's capacity to keep pace with rapidly evolving AI technology. This initiative revives and builds upon a previous government project, adding application channels to provide unrestricted public access. Although the project was delayed by about a month, this was due to Digital Economy and Society Minister Chaiyachon Chidchob negotiating revisions to the Terms of Reference to maximize benefits for the public.

Anutin responded to criticism labeling the project as useless by pointing to the high number of registrations on the first day as proof of its value. The primary target groups are students, entrepreneurs, startups, and SMEs, who will gain access to a stable platform unlike free apps that have limitations and ads. This access is expected to increase opportunities to generate income and contribute to the country's future.

Regarding former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra's concerns that AI could threaten the Thai labor market, Anutin explained that without government efforts to upskill and reskill, such worries might become reality. The TH-AI Passport project offers a concrete solution by enabling workers and knowledge workers to access technology that boosts work efficiency and competitiveness.

In anticipation of opposition parties possibly raising this issue in parliament, the Prime Minister reaffirmed the project's transparency at every stage, welcomed scrutiny from all sides, and expressed confidence that Minister Chaiyachon Chidchob will be able to clearly explain and answer parliamentary questions.
