Sabida Partners with Australia to Cooperate on Five Key Arts and Culture Initiatives Between the Two Countries

The Thai Minister of Culture held bilateral talks with the Australian Commonwealth Minister for the Arts, agreeing on five areas to expand arts and cultural cooperation between the two countries.


On 19 Aug 2026 GMT+7 at the Australian Parliament, Ms. Sabida Thaiset, Thailand's Minister of Culture, held bilateral discussions with Mr. Tony Burke, Australia's Minister for the Arts.


The purpose of the talks was to promote relations and expand practical cooperation in arts and culture between the two countries, focusing on five key areas as follows.


1. Coordinating cooperation on the repatriation of Thai antiquities currently held in Australia back to Thailand.

2. Organizing significant joint activities, such as the Bangkok Design Week event.

3. Collaborating on developing arts personnel capacity through exchanges of artists, experts, and arts staff (Artist in Residence programs).

4. Holding arts and cultural events to mark the 75th anniversary of Thai-Australian diplomatic relations to promote bilateral ties through cultural diplomacy, a key policy of the Ministry of Culture.

5. Creating a cultural cooperation Action Plan to further develop the cultural agreement signed in 1974, aiming for more tangible outcomes.
