Interior Ministry Accelerates Removal of 5,925 Local Exam Fraudsters Worasil Declares No Whitewashing

The Interior Ministry is speeding up the removal of 5,925 people involved in local exam fraud, aiming to complete it by 31 August. Worasil Liangprasith insisted the dismissal process will not be prolonged and that no one will be shielded. He added that if cover-ups occurred, the government could not survive, and he welcomed any no-confidence motions from the opposition.

At 09:40 on 20 August 2026 at the Parliament, the Committee on Decentralization, Local Administration, and Special Administration of the House of Representatives held a meeting chaired by Mr. Kongkrit Chatmaleerat, Member of Parliament (MP) for Ranong from the Bhumjaithai Party, to consider issues regarding certain rights lost by individuals. The topic concerned the appointment of civil servants and local government employees. Specifically, those not involved in the 2025 local competitive exam fraud were discussed, with invitations extended to relevant parties. Mr. Worasil Liangprasith, Deputy Minister of Interior, (Interior Ministry 4) attended the meeting.

Before the meeting, Worasil said in an interview, The provincial committees will meet and send data to local administrative organizations nationwide to remove fraudulent individuals who were appointed. Once these individuals are removed, their positions will become vacant. The 5,925 fraudsters will lose all rights, as these rights were undeserved. He reaffirmed that the removal process will not be prolonged. He acknowledged concerns from leaders of local administrative organizations nationwide who are reluctant to engage in this issue. However, since the facts prove these individuals should never have been appointed, and although many are worried due to lack of data from the central government, once the information is received, most are comfortable proceeding. He set the deadline for removing all 5,925 individuals as 31 August. The deadline for removing all 5,925 individuals is set for 31 August.

Regarding MP Rangsiman Rome of the People’s Party claiming the root of the fraud problem stems from the previous cancellation of Burapha University as the exam organizer, Worasil responded that everyone has the data. The exam fraud facts did not originate in 2024 or 2025. Canceling the contract with Burapha University means Burapha University should submit their data to the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) immediately if irregularities are suspected.

Addressing concerns about cutting off accountability before reaching higher officials such as the director-general, he said that if Burapha University and Srinakharinwirot University have data, they should send it directly to the NACC rather than to him. If there is political mistrust, he trusts the NACC to operate transparently with sufficient information. He confirmed there is no whitewashing for anyone. If the system is covered up, everything will collapse, and the government cannot survive.

Regarding the opposition using the local exam fraud data for a no-confidence debate against the government, Worasil said he welcomes it. It is the opposition’s duty to hold the government accountable. This incident is not new; this was the fourth exam cycle.
