The National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) has found over one billion baht circulating linked to exam fraud. It has set a clear deadline of six months after recalling the case files for joint investigation with the local government exam case, which the NACC has accepted as a special case due to connections within the group.
On 20 Aug 2026 at the NACC office, Surapong Intarathaworn, Secretary-General of the NACC, reported progress in investigating corruption in the competitive exams for local government employee recruitment. Financial tracing of previously arrested suspects revealed over one billion baht in circulation and connections to the 2021 local exam fraud.
The NACC board resolved to recall the case files previously forwarded to the relevant agency and instead proceed with joint investigation alongside the 2021 local exam fraud case accepted as special by the NACC, because the acts involve connected individuals. Details on which persons or links to politicians or high-ranking officials remain confidential within the case files, but the task force has information and will extend investigations to all involved. Specific names or main suspects are withheld due to case confidentiality. However, anyone implicated at any level will face prosecution. The NACC is working continuously with the Anti-Money Laundering Office (AMLO) to trace financial flows.
He acknowledged the process may frustrate the media and public given the volume of over 800,000 documents, but emphasized the need for clarity within six months starting June 2026. Efforts will be accelerated using technology to manage the documents. The NACC is an independent agency and a national pillar; sanctions must comply with law and solid evidence. Historically, the NACC's indictments have led to a 98% conviction rate in court. He urged trust in the NACC’s work, affirming it is free from interference by any party.
