Yotsanan convened a meeting on flood response in Nan on the second night, instructing Chalerm Phrakiat, Thung Chang, and Bo Kluea districts to monitor landslides closely after heavy accumulated rain, with rain expected to continue for another week.
On 20 Aug 2026 at 21:00, Professor Dr. Yotsanan Wongsawat, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI), in his role as chairman of the Northern Region Flood and Drought Prevention and Mitigation Committee, met with provincial governors, provincial administrative organizations, and relevant local agencies to receive reports on operational situations from each local unit.
Currently, although the water situation has passed the critical point, and has begun transitioning into recovery and rehabilitation phases, there remain concerns because the prolonged continuous rainfall has saturated the soil, placing it at high risk for landslides. Professor Dr. Yotsanan issued urgent directives during the meeting to prepare for this, especially in three districts—Chalerm Phrakiat, Thung Chang, and Bo Kluea—where the terrain is waterlogged and has been receiving accumulated rainfall over several consecutive days.
It is forecast that rain will continue for another week, heightening the risk of landslides and mudslides. The Deputy Prime Minister therefore ordered all districts, especially the three mentioned, to maintain strict and close monitoring of landslide and mudslide situations to be ready to assist residents promptly.
