Je Setth Orders Department of Public Works to Advance Flood Protection Dikes in Nan Province

"Je Setth" orders the Department of Public Works to proceed with flood protection dike construction and mobilize machinery to accelerate restoration in Nan after floodwaters recede.

On 21 August 2026 GMT+7, following Je Setth Thaisetth, Deputy Minister of Interior (MoI 3), leading incident command and holding a situation summary meeting at Nan Provincial Administrative Organization since 19 August, he visited Pua District again yesterday (20 August 2026 GMT+7) to monitor recovery as flood levels began to drop. He issued a key directive for the Department of Public Works and Town & Country Planning to swiftly complete the main drainage system within Nan urban community (flood protection dikes) in areas still unfinished, aiming for sustainable flood mitigation. This project had already been planned by the Department for construction in 2027.

Meanwhile, Phongnara Yenying, Director-General of the Department of Public Works and Town & Country Planning, assigned Narin Kwangthong, Inspector General of the Department, along with Marupong Tansajja, Senior Civil Engineer and Head of Flood Prevention Group, Office of Urban Planning Support and Development, to visit Nan Province alongside the Deputy Minister of Interior's team. They closely monitored operations, with the Department initially mobilizing heavy machinery to restore the area so residents can resume normal life swiftly. Equipment deployed includes 10 water trucks for cleaning, 2 backhoes, 6 ten-wheel dump trucks, and 1 grader (for soil leveling).

At the same time, within the inner area of Nan Municipality, authorities have emphasized the full operation of three large water pumps to accelerate water drainage out of the city, protecting key economic districts. It has been confirmed that all agencies will maintain their presence to assist until the situation stabilizes.
