Akkharanat has ordered the Department of Learning Promotion to oversee and prepare recovery plans for schools, teachers, educational personnel, and students after floodwaters recede, emphasizing that children must not lose access to knowledge. He plans to visit affected areas personally soon.
On 21 August 2026, Deputy Minister of Education Akkharanat Kankittinan spoke about the flood situation in northern Thailand to monitor impacts and aid for schools, teachers, and students at the Asawin Grand Convention Hotel in Bangkok.
Akkharanat said that due to flooding in northern areas, especially Nan Province, reports indicate multiple schools have been affected. He has directed the Department of Learning Promotion to immediately ensure safety and prepare recovery plans once waters recede, as the floods quickly inundated schools, teachers, staff, and students widely. Detailed data collection is underway to identify which schools may need to temporarily suspend classes.
He added that the Ministry of Education is treating the matter with utmost importance. Education Minister Prasert Chanruangthong is deeply concerned and has instructed all affected provinces to maintain close vigilance. Prasert plans to visit the areas personally soon to monitor the situation, boost morale among educational staff, and develop relief measures to prevent disruption to students’ learning.
"The Ministry of Education will address all difficulties comprehensively, including school facilities and affected students’ learning arrangements. The most important thing is to ensure children do not miss out on education and to safeguard the safety of teachers, staff, and students in the area," Akkharanat said.
