The Office of the Trade Competition Commission is inviting feedback on new ride-hailing and food delivery platforms, aiming to create fairness for over 400,000 drivers.
On 21 Aug 2026 GMT+7, Ms. Lalida Perviwatthana, Deputy Spokesperson of the Prime Minister's Office, announced that the Office of the Trade Competition Commission (OTCC) is currently soliciting public opinions on the principle document titled “Service Standards in the Digital Platform Ecosystem for On-Demand Ride-Hailing and Delivery Services,” to enhance oversight of the digital economy towards fair competition.
The Deputy Spokesperson stated that these new rules do not focus solely on sales commission rates (GP) but also cover backend operations, commercial terms, and platform mechanisms affecting the income of more than 400,000 drivers. Key issues open for feedback include the batching system, where accepting multiple jobs from two shops or two delivery locations at once leads to reduced trip fees, GPS inaccuracies causing compensation calculations to reflect shorter distances than actually traveled by drivers,
deceptive user interface designs (Dark Patterns) that cause consumers to make errors or misunderstand information, job allocation order and self-preferencing where platforms non-transparently prioritize their own services, and overall distribution criteria for assigning jobs to drivers. The market is approaching 50 billion baht in value. The government stresses that this is not a business ban but aims to foster fair competition.
Ms. Lalida added that the ride-hailing app market was valued at approximately 45 billion baht in 2025 and is expected to exceed 49 billion baht by 2029. Due to its high market concentration, clear rules are essential to curb unfair business practices.
“The government reiterates that these regulations do not prohibit business operations or promotional activities. The draft rules are not yet effective but provide an opportunity for drivers, merchants, consumers, and operators to collaboratively design the most appropriate regulations to ensure the platform economy grows without any party being exploited,” Ms. Lalida said.
The OTCC is inviting stakeholders and the public to submit their opinions via the OTCC website from now until 31 Aug 2026 GMT+7, before finalizing the regulations, which are expected to be announced by the end of Sep 2026 GMT+7.
