Opposition Prepares to Investigate TH-AI Pass Project Over Suspected Specification Locking, Privacy Concerns Raised

The opposition is preparing to gather evidence to investigate the TH-AI Pass project after clues emerged suggesting specification locking, raising concerns about potential impacts on citizens' privacy.

On 21 Aug 2026 GMT+7, Mr. Natthapong Ruangpanyawut, leader of the People's Party and opposition leader in the House of Representatives, revealed that Dr. Wayo Asawarungroeng, deputy leader of the People's Party, along with Ms. Rakchanok Srinok and the party's legal team, are currently collecting evidence to proceed with an investigation into the TH-AI Pass project. They found clear indications that specification locking may have occurred during the procurement process. Additionally, further clues showed that the network of companies awarded this project had previously worked on government contracts in other ministries and exhibited similar behaviors suggestive of bid rigging.

At the same time, Mr. Natthapong expressed concerns about the security of personal data, stating that the project's Terms of Reference (TOR) allow service providers or the government to access user behavior and even the input commands (prompts) that citizens enter into the AI system. He warned registrants to be cautious about their privacy. He also suggested that the government should apply AI technology to missions that broadly benefit the public, such as disaster management or disclosing government procurement and local audits, to enhance transparency and maximize the value of public budgets.
