Support for Regulating 35 Parliamentary Committees Over Authority Overreach, Warning Against Criminal Lawsuits

The Chair of the Police Committee supports Supachai’s idea to regulate all 35 parliamentary committees to prevent them from exceeding their authority. He criticized some committees for taking issues from the media and fabricating stories for political gain, warning them to be cautious of possible criminal lawsuits.

On 22 Aug 2025 GMT+7, Wacharapong Kuwijitsuwan, Chair of the Police Committee of the House of Representatives and a Phumjaithai Party MP for Saraburi, said he supports Supachai Jaisamut, Phumjaithai Party list MP, who proposed that the Speaker of the House consider defining clear authority frameworks for all 35 committees to prevent redundant work and power conflicts.

Wacharapong commented on the current parliament’s working problems, noting that some committee chairs do not perform duties within their proper roles. They have been found to overstep their authority and procedural rules, mainly pursuing political objectives by fabricating issues from media sources or mixing unrelated matters to create stories, causing significant harm to the individuals or agencies implicated.

Therefore, he seriously warned committee members exhibiting such behavior that if they continue to misuse their power unlawfully or abusively use summons powers beyond their scope, constituting misconduct, victims have legal channels to respond. This includes filing criminal complaints under Section 157 for misconduct in office, submitting ethics investigations through the Speaker, and referring cases to the National Anti-Corruption Commission for further legal action.

“We want the Speaker to establish a central guideline for all 35 committees to serve as a standard for their work. Defining clear authority boundaries will reduce burdens on state agencies and citizens summoned for explanations, and ensure committee powers are exercised transparently, in accordance with the rule of law, without overlap or misuse as political weapons,” the Police Committee Chair concluded.
