Deputy Prime Minister Anutin is scheduled to fly to Nan tomorrow to discuss flood response in the north, assuring full relief efforts. He noted that if provincial budgets fall short, reserve funds from the Prime Minister's Office are available. He is confident that every province has emergency plans to handle the flood season.
On 22 August 2026, Deputy Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul spoke about the flooding situation in the northern region and his plan to inspect Nan province tomorrow. He said he has coordinated with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation Yossanun Wongsawat, Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives Surya Jungrungkit, and Deputy Minister of Interior Jesad Thaiset, who have been on-site continuously. He reported that the situation is improving and the focus now is on relief efforts according to regulations. Regarding fatalities, he has ordered budget allocation to assist the families of the two deceased, aiming to provide them with the fullest possible compensation.
When asked if the provincial budgets are sufficient or if additional funds must be requested from the government, Anutin stated that if the budgets are insufficient, there are funds available from the Prime Minister's Office and other agencies.
Regarding coordination for flood season in other provinces, Anutin revealed that every province has prepared emergency plans. He pointed out that governors in flood-prone areas are ready to declare emergencies and manage the situation effectively. Tomorrow, he will travel to Nan province not to inspect flood sites directly but to hear reports on actions taken and determine if further support from the central government is needed. The meeting will be held at the Nan provincial hall. He will not visit flood areas as operational units are already working on rapid restoration.
Regarding the upcoming cabinet meeting in Songkhla at the end of this month, and whether flood budgets will be reviewed after establishing an inspection committee, the Prime Minister stated that they will monitor the situation closely. The cabinet meeting will not only focus on disaster relief but will also address economic stimulus and public infrastructure development. It will cover broad issues including agriculture and security in the southern border provinces.
