The Prime Minister visited Sergeant Major Channarong, who lost his ankle stepping on a landmine near Chong An Ma, and preparations are underway to transfer him to Phra Mongkutklao Hospital for a prosthetic leg fitting.
On 23 August 2026, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul traveled to Sanpasitthiprasong Camp Hospital in Mueang District, Ubon Ratchathani, to visit Sergeant Major Channarong Wongsana of the bomb disposal unit. He had been severely injured and lost his right ankle after stepping on a PMN-2 anti-personnel mine while clearing explosives near Chong An Ma on 17 August.
Upon arrival, the Prime Minister visited at the bedside to closely inquire about Sergeant Major Channarong's condition and spoke words of encouragement to his family, including his wife and son. The Prime Minister asked the son what he wanted to be when he grew up, and upon hearing “I want to be a doctor,” he promised that the government would take good care of the soldier's family before presenting gifts to uplift their spirits.
After the visit, Anutin revealed that Sergeant Major Channarong’s overall condition is now stable and he is undergoing wound recovery. Medical staff reported no serious physical concerns. The plan is to transfer him to Phra Mongkutklao Hospital in about two weeks to fit a prosthetic leg, which will help him regain ease in daily life.
