The Deputy Minister of Transport visited Pattani to follow up on multiple unrest incidents, instructing the provincial governor to summarize damages for government compensation requests and emphasizing the need for route surveillance to ensure safety and service continuity.
On 23 Aug 2026 GMT+7, Mr. Sappet Boonyamani, Deputy Minister of Transport, accompanied by Mr. Kraisorn Wisitwong, Advisor to the Deputy Prime Minister, Mr. Waruslan Masae and other advisors to the Deputy Minister, Mr. Weerayut Ngamjit, Assistant Secretary to the Minister of Transport, and the delegation traveled to Pattani Province to assess the situation and damages from unrest on the evening of 22 Aug. They were joined by Ms. Patima Sadeyamu, Governor of Pattani, local MPs, and the Deputy Secretary-General of the Southern Border Provinces Administrative Centre to hear direct reports from officials.
The first site visited was Bang Khao Subdistrict Administrative Organization in Nong Chik District, where militants set fire to a fire truck and a garbage truck, causing heavy damage to both vehicles. The delegation then proceeded to the 7-Eleven convenience store branch in Ban Bang Pu, Yaring District, which was bombed and completely burned down. Mr. Sappet inspected the damage and received factual reports. These two incidents were part of a total of 51 unrest events occurring simultaneously across 21 districts in the three southern border provinces.
Mr. Sappet stated that this visit was intended to personally monitor the situation after completing duties in Krabi Province, to gather information and encourage officials and local residents. He noted the incidents directly impacted public services and residents’ daily lives. He assigned the Pattani governor to urgently and systematically survey all damages to propose a funding framework for repair, recovery, and relief to the Prime Minister and government.
Additionally, the Deputy Minister of Transport instructed all Ministry of Transport agencies in the area to closely monitor the situation and maintain transport routes and infrastructure to enable prompt problem-solving and response. He affirmed a commitment to support and expedite problem resolution fully, aiming to minimize the impact on the daily lives of local residents.
