On 23 August 2026 at Sapphasitthiprasong Camp Hospital in Mueang District, Ubon Ratchathani Province, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul visited Sergeant Major Chanarong Wongsana, an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) officer injured after stepping on a PMN-2 anti-personnel mine during duty near Chong An Ma area in Ubon Ratchathani.
After visiting the injured officer, the Prime Minister stated that the government is fully prepared to care for and support the nation’s heroes who are injured or killed in duty. This assistance is coordinated between the Office of the Prime Minister and the Ministry of Defense to ensure that personnel and their families receive the most appropriate compensation.
Regarding security along the Thai-Cambodian border, the Prime Minister said the military is always ready to maintain peace. Previously, he, along with Lieutenant General Adul Boonthamcharoen, Minister of Defense, and General Pana Klaewplodtuk, Commander-in-Chief of the Army, inspected the border area, and everything proceeded smoothly with no signs of violence.
When asked about border surveillance during Cambodia’s election period, the Prime Minister affirmed that Thailand remains vigilant and continuously prepared. The three armed forces, the Royal Thai Police, and local administrative authorities responsible for border provinces are all involved. He assured the public that the Thai military is not at a disadvantage. Specific operational details are classified for national security reasons.
