Prime Minister Summons Security Agencies to Discuss Southern Border Unrest Amid Criticism of Delayed Intelligence

Prime Minister Anutin summoned security agencies to discuss multiple unrest incidents in the three southern border provinces, holding a tense meeting after criticism over delayed intelligence.


24 August 2026 GMT+7 Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Chanvirakul arrived at Government House and convened relevant security agencies for discussions at the Thai Khu Fah Building, following multiple unrest incidents in the three southern border provinces.  

Anutin summoned Thanat Suwannanon, Director of the National Intelligence Agency and head of peace talks for the southern border provinces; Chatichai Bangchuad, Secretary-General of the National Security Council (NSC); Nantapong Suwanrat, Deputy Secretary-General of the Southern Border Provinces Administrative Centre (SBPAC); Director of Operations Coordination Center 5 of the Internal Security Operations Command (ISOC); and directors of security and multicultural affairs in the southern border provinces from the NSC.

The discussion was expected to include an assessment of the situation, particularly addressing criticisms regarding unprepared intelligence and delays in early warnings.
