At 09:15 on 24 August 2026 GMT+7 Mr. Phanthil Nuamjeum Phanthil Nuamjeum, Member of Parliament for Bangkok from the Prachachon Party, held a press conference at the parliament regarding the Senate vote-rigging fraud case. He stated that on 29 August, the opposition leaders will hold a final seminar at the Pullman King Power Hotel to present evidence stronger than that of iLaw. On 28 August, the parliamentary committee on courts, independent agencies, the prosecution organization, state enterprises, public organizations, and funds will hold a seminar featuring Mr. Abhisit Vejjajiva, party-list MP and leader of the Democrat Party; Mr. Bowornsak Uwanno, former Deputy Prime Minister; and Mr. Wicha Mahakhun, former member of the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC).
Mr. Phanthil added that these ongoing activities should convince everyone that the issue cannot be ignored. Senators named in the case—including the Senate President, Deputy President, 13 Senator Ministers, and 17 Palang Pracharath MPs—total 229 individuals included in the investigation dossier. If the Election Commission conceals facts and narrows the case to only 8 people as per the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) case file, it does not represent the entire network. The question remains: who truly holds decision-making power? The final financial trail must lead to the group with authority. This is not a direct accusation against Mr. Newin Chidchob, as it is unclear who may be behind him in the Blue regime, but there must be planners and system architects. The hope is that independent agencies will not betray their founding principles or act improperly due to fear of imprisonment, as some have threatened. The prosecution has advised not to limit the investigation to just 8 individuals but to pursue those with real decision-making power. He urged the Election Commission to forward all dossiers to the Supreme Court.
Meanwhile, Mr. Anusorn Kaewwichean Anusorn Kaewwichean, MP for Nonthaburi from the Prachachon Party, said that previously, Mr. Sa-wang Boonmee, Secretary-General of the Election Commission, has regularly held press conferences explaining the Senate election case on behalf of the Election Commission. However, he raised the point that Mr. Sa-wang is only the Secretary-General and not a commissioner, although there are rumors he might assume that role in the future. Currently, his role remains solely Secretary-General. He expressed a desire to see the Election Commission hold a press conference to explain the progress and investigation process personally, especially since the commission said results would be known by the end of August.
Recently, the Secretary-General posed questions regarding three legal elements of wrongdoing, prompting questions about whose authority he represented and under what capacity he spoke. He urged Mr. Sa-wang to personally provide information to the parliamentary committee on Political Development, Mass Communication, and Public Participation at the House of Representatives. Despite several invitations, Mr. Sa-wang has only sent representatives who could not clearly answer questions. Previously, Mr. Sa-wang said he was unaware of detailed information about the Senate vote-rigging case because he delegated all matters to the Deputy Secretary-General. Yet, he recently demonstrated expertise, showing knowledge of all aspects and the case's circumstances. Therefore, they want Mr. Sa-wang to clarify all facts directly to the parliamentary committee on Political Development.
