The Minister of Tourism revealed talks with Aekniti to proceed with 'Thai Tiew Thai Plus,' expanding to 1 million rights with registration starting 1 October. This aims to stimulate the economy and assist businesses affected by the energy crisis. The Tourism Authority of Thailand also plans a winter travel campaign for Nan and northern regions.
At 10:00 a.m. on 25 August 2026 GMT+7. Mr. Surasak Pancharoenworakul, Minister of Tourism and Sports, spoke at the Government House regarding the details of the 'Thai Tiew Thai Plus' project. He said, registration will begin on 1 October this year. The project will be proposed to the Cabinet by September. The backend system is ready, with only criteria remaining to be finalized. Registration will be via the 'Pao Tang' app. In discussions yesterday (24 August) with Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Aekniti Nitithanprapas and Finance Permanent Secretary Lawan Sangsnit, it was confirmed the rights will be available from December.
Meanwhile, the number of rights will be expanded from the original 500,000 to 1,000,000. Funding will come from the 2026 Emergency Loan Decree empowering the Ministry of Finance to borrow money to address impacts from the energy crisis and support the country’s energy transition, totaling 3.5 billion baht. Previously, 500,000 rights required 1.75 billion baht. The aim is to maximize usage by opening 1 million rights at once. Each person may register for up to 5 rights. The project aims to aid operators affected by the recent energy situation.
Additionally, Mr. Surasak spoke about restoring tourism in Nan after the floods, saying the Prime Minister emphasized that after recovery, activities must boost tourism and the local economy. With the rainy season ending and winter approaching—Nan’s pleasant season—the Tourism Authority of Thailand is preparing campaigns to stimulate tourism in Nan and northern regions.
