The Prime Minister revealed the reason for transferring Chatichai from Secretary-General of the National Security Council to Permanent Secretary of the Prime Minister's Office, citing their smooth working relationship. Regarding the rumor about 'Sergeant Major Puduang' becoming the NSC Secretary-General, he said to await the Cabinet's decision.
On 25 August 2026, Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, commented on the Cabinet's approval to appoint Mr. Chatichai Bangchuad, Secretary-General of the National Security Council, as the new Permanent Secretary of the Prime Minister's Office. He explained that since the current Permanent Secretary is retiring, and working at the Government House requires familiar colleagues, appointing Chatichai will ensure smooth continuity. Having worked together for the past year, they communicate and coordinate effectively. Moreover, Chatichai can assist and provide in-depth advice on security missions and negotiations, as well as represent the Prime Minister in important meetings and decisions.
When asked about rumors of discussions with General Pana Klaewplodtuk, Commander-in-Chief of the Army, to request General Chaiphruek Duangpraphat (Sergeant Major Puduang), Army Chief of Staff, to serve as the new Secretary-General of the National Security Council, Mr. Anutin jokingly replied to the media, “That’s a leading question,” and added that today’s matter only concerns the transfer of the NSC Secretary-General to Permanent Secretary of the Prime Minister's Office.
When further asked if General Chaiphruek would be the new NSC Secretary-General, Mr. Anutin reiterated that the public should wait for the Cabinet’s review and approval according to the proper procedures.
