The Deputy Prime Minister visited Tha Wang Pha and Pua districts to speed up mud clearance. Meanwhile, the Cabinet approved over 549 million baht from the central budget to aid flood victims, providing 2 million baht per death case.
On 25 Aug 2026 GMT+7, Mr. Yotsanan Wongsawat, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI), and chairman of the committee addressing flood and drought problems in northern Thailand, visited flood recovery sites in Nan province at Tha Wang Pha and Pua districts, urging comprehensive assistance for affected residents.
Mr. Yotsanan revealed that the Cabinet approved a 2026 central budget frame of 549,989,000 baht for the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) to distribute emergency flood relief via the Government Savings Bank, with criteria as follows: households with permanent residences flooded receive 9,000 baht each (covering registered owners, renters, and actual occupants, excluding government housing); fatality cases from landslides or direct flood impact receive 2,000,000 baht per person.
Additionally, the Comptroller General’s Department approved an extra 100 million baht emergency advance budget under the authority of the Nan governor to support urgent needs, including home repairs up to 88,600 baht, housing rental assistance up to 2,500 baht per month (max two months), livelihood equipment support up to 13,500 baht, and funeral expenses up to 35,700 baht per case.
During the visit to Tha Wang Pha district, the Deputy Prime Minister inspected the construction of a model water retention weir, accelerated mud clearance at Ban Kaem, and coordinated with the Royal Irrigation Department to quickly build a temporary Bailey bridge replacing severed routes. In Pua district, efforts focused on restoring severely affected areas including Ban Hia, Ban Faai, and Ban Rong, with a meeting alongside Nan Provincial Administrative Organization to plan long-term recovery strategies.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives conducted initial damage assessments in nine districts, finding over 14,900 rai of agricultural land damaged and 6,538 farmers affected. Compensation rates were increased, for example, 2,240 baht per rai for rice paddies, up to 6,800 baht per rai for field crops, vegetables, and perennial plants, and 16,000 baht per rai for debris dredging (max five rai). Farmers were urged to promptly submit form Kas 01 to receive assistance.
To facilitate compensation claims, Nan province and local administrative organizations streamlined procedures, eliminating the need for residents to provide photocopies or photos. Affected people only need to report their information to village headmen or community leaders, who will verify eligibility and forward requests to district offices for swift payment processing.
