Chaiyachana Explains Party Incident as Just Banter Deputy Superintendent of Thung Yai Police Station and Democrat Party Order No Interference in Investigation

"Chaiyachana" clarified at the Democrat Party MPs meeting that the ear-slap incident involving the Deputy Superintendent of Thung Yai Police Station was only playful. He is prepared to enter the justice process. The party has ordered no interference, and if wrongdoing is confirmed, it will take action according to party regulations and ethics.

On 25 Aug 2026 GMT+7, at the Democrat Party headquarters, the first party MPs meeting was held after the parliamentary session opened, ahead of the first parliamentary meeting on 26 Aug. The meeting was chaired by Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva, with full attendance of party MPs. Later at 16:00, Mr. Pongsakorn Kwanmuang, party spokesperson, stated that before the meeting, Mr. Chaiyachana Dechadecho, Deputy Party Leader, explained the news about slapping the ear of the Deputy Superintendent of Thung Yai Police Station, Nakhon Si Thammarat, who filed a complaint. Mr. Chaiyachana insisted he had no intent to harm the Deputy Superintendent, who is a relative, and that it was playful. Afterward, they ate together and took photos with Mr. Abhisit, who attended a relative’s funeral of a party MP. They had normal conversations. However, the party emphasized that despite it being playful, as an MP who always wears this role, there is no pause in duties, and MPs must remember they represent the public. The party stressed no interference with the justice process and full cooperation for equal justice. Ultimately, whatever the case outcome, it must be accepted, and the party will proceed according to its regulations and ethics.
