26 Aug 2026 GMT+7 Mr. Chatchat Sitthiphan, Governor of Bangkok, visited the area to monitor the situation at Khlong Phra Khanong after receiving reports from the public about concrete debris from construction being dumped into the canal. He expressed gratitude to the public for their vigilance and reporting. He emphasized that dumping concrete or construction waste into canals is unacceptable as it causes sediment buildup, harms water drainage and the environment. Construction debris must be disposed of properly at designated locations.
Governor Chatchat added that during the visit, two construction projects were identified in the area: the Phra Khanong pumping station upgrade and the canal-side walkway project, both underway. Bangkok authorities will expedite investigations to determine which project is responsible for the concrete dumping and hold accountable those responsible.
"If concrete dumping into the water is confirmed, we will fully enforce the law against the contractors and all involved parties. Every project operating in the area must be environmentally responsible. Bangkok will instruct both the Drainage Department and district offices to tighten enforcement," he said.
Khlong Phra Khanong is a key drainage route in Bangkok, connecting to Khlong Prawet, Khlong Tan, and other canals before discharging into the Chao Phraya River via the Phra Khanong pumping station. Maintaining canal capacity and condition is crucial for flood prevention and management in Bangkok. The public is encouraged to report any dumping of trash, concrete, stones, or construction materials into canals or drainage pipes through the Traffy Fondue app or the Bangkok 1555 hotline so authorities can investigate and take action.
