Constitutional Court judges conducted an on-site inquiry into the barcode on election ballots, inspecting evidence storage at the Lak Si District Office. Saweang revealed that the facts have been fully established and expressed confidence that placing barcodes on ballots does not violate the Constitution.
On 27 Aug 2026 at 10:30 a.m., the Constitutional Court assigned Mr. Wirul Sangthian and Mr. Napadol Thepphitak, Constitutional Court judges, along with officials responsible for the case, to inspect the storage site of election ballots, ballot stubs, remaining ballots, voter registration lists, and election materials used in the general election held on 8 Feb 2026 at the Lak Si District Office. Parties involved in the case also participated in inspecting evidence, including Mr. Saweang Boonmee, Secretary-General of the Election Commission of Thailand (ECT); Lt. Commander Pasakorn Siriphakayaporn, Deputy Secretary-General of the ECT; and Worapong Anancharoenkij, Director of the Election Support Bureau, ECT. Meanwhile, the Ombudsman, as the petitioner, sent representatives to join the evidence inspection as well.
After about one hour of inspection, Mr. Saweang Boonmee, Secretary-General of the ECT, revealed that today’s Constitutional Court inquiry aimed to verify whether the processes for storing ballots, ballot stubs, remaining ballots, and voter registration lists complied with the ECT’s statements before the bench. He expects that the Court has thoroughly examined all facts and resolved the matter. The Court toured the facilities with officials providing explanations, and from the discussion, it appears all issues were thoroughly addressed. Additionally, the Court gave the petitioner—the Ombudsman—the opportunity to question the respondent if needed. Moving forward, the ECT will submit a closing statement to the Constitutional Court by 11 Sep, clarifying the purpose of its actions and expressing confidence that what the ECT has done does not violate the Constitution.
