The Prime Minister affirmed he has no authority to appoint an investigation committee concerning the alleged helicopter shooting of youths in Janae, pointing out that the area is under martial law where the military holds the highest authority. He also stated that the Fourth Army Region commander has confirmed that no such incident occurred.
At 12:00 on 27 August 2026, at Naval Training Area No. 15 (Hat Yao), Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul addressed the case where members of parliament from the southern border provinces demanded and submitted a letter to establish a fact-finding committee and urgently resolve the unrest, especially regarding claims that youths were shot from a helicopter in Janae District, Narathiwat Province. He said that Lieutenant General Narathip Phoyonok, Commander of the Fourth Army Region and Director of Internal Security Operations Command Region 4, who is the highest incident commander in the area, has already confirmed that no such incident occurred. Additionally, martial law has been declared in the area. However, he acknowledged that the Fourth Army Region commander will allow a fact-finding investigation and that the results will have to be awaited.
Regarding the case where MP Ramadan Panjor of the Prachachon Party urged the Prime Minister to establish an investigative committee, Anutin said it is necessary to examine the legal authority to determine if the Prime Minister can proceed, since there is already a situation commander in the area and martial law and emergency decrees have been declared, granting supreme authority to the military. He compared this to the case when former Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha declared martial law before the 2014 coup, during which time the then-government was unable to take any action as well.
