The Decentralization Committee has ordered a complete overhaul of the ministerial regulations controlling buildings to address issues exposed by the Lat Phrao brewery fire, pressing for the addition of mandatory third-party insurance conditions.
On 27 August 2026, Mr. Kongkrit Chatmaleerat, a Member of Parliament for Ranong from the Bhumjaithai Party and chairman of the Decentralization, Local Government, and Special Administrative Management Committee of the House of Representatives, announced the findings of the inquiry and relief efforts for those affected by the Lat Phrao brewery fire that occurred on 16 July 2026. He said the committee has been continuously monitoring the situation and invited representatives from relevant agencies for clarification. A representative from Chatuchak District Office stated that a suspension order for the building's use has been issued along with a directive to demolish it within 30 days; if not done within this period, the district will proceed with demolition. Meanwhile, a Bangkok Metropolitan Administration representative confirmed stricter enforcement of entertainment venue licensing to ensure compliance with intended purposes and mandated all district offices to apply uniform inspection standards throughout Bangkok.
Regarding case progress and compensation, the insurance company has preliminarily assessed damages at no more than 20 million baht. However, the investigator from Phahonyothin Police Station considers this amount insufficient to cover the actual losses to all victims when distributed. Therefore, the matter has been referred to the public prosecutor to explore additional assistance. As for the criminal case, the first witness hearing is scheduled for October this year, with two suspects charged.
The Decentralization Committee chairman concluded that the committee resolved to urge relevant agencies to promptly amend ministerial regulations on building control to enhance safety measures. They proposed making third-party insurance a compulsory condition in the business license application process. The committee will closely monitor compensation efforts, as some victims remain dissatisfied with the current relief amounts.
