The Ministry of Interior has instructed provincial governors to direct local administration and police to investigate and compile the behavior of drug users following operational guidelines for prosecuting or rehabilitating drug users under the Narcotics Act.
On 27 Aug 2026 GMT+7, Mr. Assit Sampanrat, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, explained the operational guidelines for prosecuting or rehabilitating drug users under the Narcotics Act, according to the resolution of the 2/2569 meeting of the Narcotics Control Board held on 3 Jul 2026 GMT+7. The meeting was chaired by Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul. The Ministry of Interior was assigned to collaborate with relevant agencies, including the Ministry of Public Health, the Office of the Narcotics Control Board, and the Royal Thai Police, to verify background information on rehabilitation history, behavior, and circumstances of drug users.
Mr. Assit said the Ministry of Interior has ordered governors in all 76 provinces nationwide to emphasize that local administration and police strictly follow the guidelines for bringing drug users into the legal or rehabilitation process. They are to investigate users who may pose risks to others, such as those exhibiting delinquent behavior, causing disturbances or troubles, or having a history of violence toward family members or society. This information will be compiled to consider legal action by investigators, in line with the integrated policy. “Relieving suffering, promoting well-being, protecting public peace, eradicating narcotics, and defeating delinquency.”
