On 28 August 2026, reporters noted that at 10:00 a.m. at the National Security Council building in the Government House, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul presided over the 6/2026 National Security Council (NSC) meeting. A key agenda item was the nomination of a new NSC Secretary to replace the current Secretary, Chatichai Bangchuad, who was reassigned by Cabinet resolution on 25 August to serve as Secretary-General to the Prime Minister's Office. Reports indicate that General Chaiphruek Duangpraphat, Army Chief of Staff, was proposed as the new NSC Secretary during today's meeting.
According to procedure, after the NSC meeting approves General Chaiphruek as the new NSC Secretary, the nomination will be submitted to the Cabinet meeting for final approval.
