The leader of the Pheu Thai Party affirmed that the government remains firmly stable and is not concerned about Dr. Cholnan Sri-keaaw’s planned participation in an opposition panel, expressing confidence that Dr. Cholnan will speak with discernment and within proper limits.
On 28 Aug 2026 GMT+7, Mr. Julapan Amornwiwat, Minister of Labour and leader of the Pheu Thai Party, spoke about Dr. Cholnan Sri-keaaw, former leader of Pheu Thai, preparing to join an opposition forum titled "Thai Politics in a Crisis of Confidence." He said the Pheu Thai Party is open and does not forbid members from engaging in activities or forums to exchange views with the public. Dr. Cholnan has been invited as a former opposition leader alongside other senior figures such as Mr. Abhisit Vejjajiva.
Mr. Julapan stated that the forum’s theme aims to build public confidence in the Thai political system and is not targeted at attacking the government. He trusts Dr. Cholnan’s judgment to speak appropriately within the framework. He added he will discuss details further with Dr. Cholnan and reminded the opposition that forums funded by public budget should be conducted transparently and for communication benefits to the public, not primarily for political gain or purposes.
When asked whether Dr. Cholnan’s participation might cause discord among coalition parties, Mr. Julapan firmly replied, "No, the government's stability remains rock solid!" He emphasized that coalition parties work together as the "government of the people" following the Prime Minister’s approach without division. Regardless of no-confidence debates or other issues, these cannot shake their relationships, as reflected in the smooth passage of the loan decree vote.
Additionally, Mr. Julapan revealed that the Prime Minister plans to schedule a meal soon with coalition parties, initially expected to include two groups: one of coalition ministers and another of all coalition party members of parliament. The exact date, time, and venue are pending official coordination.
