Dependable 'Jay Sathet,' Deputy Minister of Interior, provided funding to support repairs of Nan’s waterworks, enhancing clean water access in three affected subdistricts. He ordered a team of experts to deploy to Pua district to restore water production and quality control systems for water supply.
On 28 August 2026, Mr. Jay Sathet Thaiset, Deputy Minister of Interior (Interior Minister 3), continued monitoring the restoration of local water supply systems in Nan Province after floods occurred from 18–21 August 2026. The floods affected public utilities and infrastructure in several areas. He instructed the Provincial Waterworks Authority (PWA) to urgently deploy engineering expertise in water production, distribution, and quality control to fully support local administrative organizations (LAOs) affected, so water systems can be efficiently restored and residents have sufficient safe water promptly.
Mr. Jay Sathet stated that after the flood situation subsides, the priority is to quickly restore essential public utilities, especially water supply systems, which directly affect the quality of life and public health. Therefore, he provided budget support and instructed the PWA to mobilize personnel, machinery, and knowledge to assist localities where water systems were damaged.
"Even though the waters have receded, the mission is not complete because people need clean water for daily life. We must expedite restoring the water systems to full operation and improve their readiness beyond previous levels to withstand emergencies or future natural disasters," he said.
In Pua district, Nan Province, the PWA assembled a team of engineers and specialists in water production, pumping, distribution, and quality control to assist affected local administrative organizations in the subdistricts of Chedi Chai, Sila Laeng, and On. They conducted damage assessments, provided engineering consultations, prepared designs and cost estimates, and collaboratively planned repairs and system improvements suitable for local conditions.
Mr. Jakrapong Kamchan, Governor of the PWA, said the Deputy Minister of Interior supported the budget and directed the PWA to continuously send expert teams to Pua district, Nan Province, to assist localities in restoring water production, pumping, distribution, and quality control systems. Progress in each area is as follows:
In Sila Laeng subdistrict, the PWA completed surveys and prepared designs with cost estimates for the water supply system of the Sila Laeng Subdistrict Administrative Organization covering villages 7 and 1. These were handed over to the local administration to guide restoration efforts.
In On subdistrict, PWA staff repaired the damaged water production system and provided advice on system management and water quality control. The repairs are complete, and the system has returned to normal operation.
In Chedi Chai subdistrict, the PWA is preparing designs and cost estimates for the raft and pumping system, expected to be completed within two weeks. Meanwhile, the Chedi Chai Subdistrict Administrative Organization has installed temporary pumps and piping, enabling normal water pumping and distribution currently.
The PWA Governor added that beyond quickly restoring damaged water systems, PWA Region 9 has transferred knowledge and provided recommendations to local administrations on improving and expanding pipeline networks, managing production and distribution systems, and controlling and solving water quality issues. This aims to empower localities to effectively and up to standard manage their water supply systems. PWA will continue monitoring the situation and supplying academic, engineering, and personnel support to local authorities to expedite water system restoration in Nan Province, ensuring efficient service and enhancing system readiness for emergencies and natural disasters. This builds public confidence that water will be clean, safe, and sufficient for daily living.
