Nattakan accused Supachai of acting hastily and admitting guilt after Abhisit warned that political parties controlling the Senate and interfering with independent agencies could be attempting to overthrow the government.
On 28 Aug 2026 GMT+7, Nattakan Chuchana, Deputy Spokesperson of the Democrat Party, said that on the morning of 28 Aug, the Parliamentary Committee on Courts, Independent Agencies, Attorney General's Office, State Enterprises, Public Organizations, and Funds, together with the King Prajadhipok Institute, held an academic seminar titled 'The Crisis of Trust in Independent Agencies: Origins and Solutions.' During the event, Abhisit Vejjajiva, Democrat Party leader, stated, "If we assume that a political party openly or secretly takes control of the Senate, places its people in independent agencies, and those agencies protect the executive and Senate from wrongdoing while no one can oversee these agencies because the Speaker blocks investigations, I feel these people might be using their freedoms to overthrow the government."
The Democrat Party's Deputy Spokesperson added that the principle at stake concerns Thailand's constitutional monarchy system, where the core of governance is checks and balances. Therefore, any political party dominating the Senate and interfering with independent agencies to the extent that oversight and law enforcement fail is effectively using freedoms to overthrow the government.
"However, shortly after, one political party’s legal chief, Supachai Jaisamut, hastily admitted that his party is the one Abhisit accused of controlling the Senate and interfering with independent agencies," he said. Nattakan concluded his remarks.
