The Ministry of Commerce has joined forces with the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation to transform research and intellectual property into "revenue-generating assets" at the IP x Venture Rise Thailand 2026 event, unlocking Thai technologies and connecting them with investors to drive innovation toward global market competitiveness.
Ms. Banjongjit Angsusingh, advisor to the Minister of Commerce, said that to promote the commercial use and tangible economic value of Thailand's research, innovation, and intellectual property, the Ministry of Commerce, together with the Office of the Science Promotion Commission (OSPC) and the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, organized the IP x Venture Rise Thailand 2026 event, running until 29 August at Hall 8, IMPACT Muang Thong Thani.
Ms. Banjongjit added that to connect research, technology, innovation, and intellectual property with business and investment sectors—enabling value creation and real global market competitiveness—the Department of Intellectual Property under the Ministry of Commerce, OSPC, the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, and all partner networks jointly organized IP x Venture Rise Thailand 2026 until 29 August at Hall 8, IMPACT Muang Thong Thani, to push Thailand's research, innovation, and intellectual property toward commercial use and tangible economic value.
She stated that the global economy and trade are currently undergoing significant changes, with the source of economic value shifting from tangible assets to intangible assets. According to the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), investment in intangible assets is projected to exceed 10 trillion US dollars in 2025, reaching an all-time high and growing three times faster than investment in tangible assets. This reflects that intangible assets—including knowledge, technology, innovation, brands, and intellectual property—are key factors in gaining competitive advantage and increasing national GDP. Thailand must accelerate upgrading these intangible assets to meet market demands and generate economic value, enabling Thai entrepreneurs to adapt, grow, and compete robustly in the global market.
The role of intellectual property extends beyond "registration and rights protection" to focus more on "commercial utilization of intellectual property." The Ministry has set a key policy directing the Department of Intellectual Property to accelerate IP Financing, allowing entrepreneurs to use intellectual property as assets or collateral to access funding sources or raise capital to expand their businesses. Currently, the Department is working closely with financial institutions, intellectual property appraisers, and IP owners to drive this forward concretely. In Q4 of this year, the department will pilot mechanisms for valuation and use of intellectual property as collateral to obtain financial support from banks and investors, providing capital to generate revenue, expand businesses, and enhance the country's competitiveness.
The IP x Venture Rise Thailand 2026 event serves as a crucial mechanism to implement this policy practically. A collaboration between the Ministry of Commerce and the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation aims for the event to be more than just an exhibition or business matching platform. It seeks to connect researchers, innovators, and intellectual property owners with suitable markets, buyers, and investors. The event showcases over 250 booths featuring Thailand's high-potential research and innovations in five key sectors: 1) health technology, 2) agricultural technology, 3) digital and AI technology, 4) food technology, and 5) clean technology— all market trend sectors. The event targets at least 100 business matching negotiations, generating no less than 50 million baht in business value.
The event also features other interesting activities, including the Partner Pavilion zone, supported by PTT Public Company Limited and Siam Cement Group Public Company Limited, showcasing innovations and technologies to offer entrepreneurs and attendees insights on applying and developing innovations in business. The IP Service zone provides intellectual property consultations. The IP Partner zone gathers partner agencies from the public sector, private sector, financial institutions, and international organizations to offer consultations on funding access, networking, and host panel discussions on various topics, including intellectual property valuation and management, led by experts from Thailand, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), and the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), enhancing understanding of rights management and value creation for intellectual property.
At the event, the “IP Champion 2026” awards were presented to intellectual property owners who demonstrated outstanding creativity, strategic commercial utilization, and strong rights protection across various categories.
1) Trademark category: Large enterprise award went to the trademark "SINGHA" by Boon Rawd Brewery Company Limited; the small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) award went to the trademark "Warbie Yama" by Arwama Company Limited and Mr. Arut Tantasirin.
2) Patent/Innovation patent category: Government agency or educational institution award went to the innovation patent "Probiotic Microorganism Preparation Formula" by Prince of Songkla University; private sector award went to the innovation patent "Polymer-based Wound Dressing Material" by PTT Public Company Limited.
3) Copyright category: The character "Warbie" by Mr. Arut Tantasirin.
4) Geographical Indication (GI) category: The GI product "Salted Grouper Fish from Takaab" by Kulaothong Mae Pan Company.
The awarded works of IP Champion 2026 were also exhibited at the IP x Venture Rise Thailand event to share their success and inspire entrepreneurs, researchers, and creators to recognize opportunities to transform intellectual property into business value.
