By-election in Udon Thanis District 3: Anutin Nods After Son-in-law Rang Thuraphon Leads by Wide Margin

Anutin visited Udon Thani to pay respects at a temple before following the vote count in the District 3 by-election, where Atikan Kaewkruesri, son-in-law of Rang Thuraphon, holds a commanding lead. He nodded in acknowledgment of the vote tally.

At 17:55 on 30 Aug 2026, Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, and leader of the Bhumjaithai Party, arrived in Udon Thani to monitor the vote count in the District 3 by-election. The party had nominated Atikan Kaewkruesri, son-in-law of Rang Thuraphon, to defend the seat.

When asked by reporters about his visit, Anutin said he was waiting for the vote count to be announced and that he wanted to pay respects at a temple first.

Anutin then asked reporters whether voter turnout was high. They replied it was lower than usual due to no early voting and rainy weather. When asked if he was pleased with the election results so far, Anutin smiled and said, “Wait a moment.”

Reporters mentioned that the leading candidate was ahead in votes. Anutin responded, “Really?” and nodded in agreement.
