At 08:50 on 31 Aug 2026 at the Parliament building, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul was interviewed about the Thai women's volleyball team winning the 2026 Asian Championship at the AVC Volleyball Continental Championship 2026, thereby qualifying for the 2028 Olympic Games. He said, “Oh, I’m so happy.” He was thrilled to see the players singing the Thai national anthem yesterday (30 Aug). He described the feeling as indescribable—he got goosebumps and a lump in his throat hearing the anthem, similar to when he travels abroad and hears the anthem played, which fills him with pride. But while foreign trips have about 50 people, this achievement brought joy to over 70 million people in Thailand. He expressed deep gratitude and pride, saying this shows the country’s potential. Thailand is not overlooked nor lacking in capability. This is another chapter showing that it’s not only the government’s role to promote Thailand, but these young athletes can bring fame to the nation. Qualifying for the Olympics is extraordinary and a dream for all. The government’s duty is to do everything possible to support talented people, especially youth, to reach their dreams fully. Today, he feels even more at ease as they have gone all the way. When asked about financial support for the women’s volleyball team, the Prime Minister asked back, “What does ‘all the way’ mean?”
On 30 August, on his Facebook page Anutin Charnvirakul, the Prime Minister posted: “Tonight, all Thai people will likely go to bed happy and smiling after witnessing the great victory of the Thai women's national volleyball team. I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the entire Thai women's volleyball team and everyone involved who have brought pride to us today.”
