Prime Minister Anutin led the Cabinet wearing royal-granted batik clothing featuring the pattern of Somdet and the Princess “Buppha Borommarachinart” to join the Gastronomy Creative City event, enjoying famous local products and OTOP goods.
31 Aug 2026 GMT+7 Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul led the Cabinet wearing navy blue batik Hawaiian-style shirts with the royal-granted pattern of Somdet and Princess “Buppha Borommarachinart.” The design combined Songkhla Province’s identity (a mermaid) and included a handmade Manora bead brooch pinned on the chest, a traditional southern Thai artisan product, to participate in the Gastronomy Creative City event at Laguna Grand and Spa Hotel, Songkhla.
The event featured 16 booths showcasing Songkhla’s famous products and OTOP items, such as mo chi dessert, pulled tea roti, egg wrapped in pastry, seaweed salad, preserved sweet mango from Singhanakhon, mango baow slushie, crispy white snapper skin, champada ice cream, Songkhla tofu stew, Khlong Ngae tofu, and black pepper fish balls, among others.
The Prime Minister first stopped at the Songkhla soy sauce booth, a local culinary wisdom, where the owner presented him with a bottle of soy sauce. He then visited the mango baow slushie booth from the Punsup Marketing community enterprise, where Songkhla’s provincial development officer explained that mango baow is a famous Songkhla product and a GI (Geographical Indication) item, regularly featured at OTOP fairs every year.
The Prime Minister asked, “Is it free today?” The community enterprise representative replied, “It’s free today, but we will charge next time.” This made the Prime Minister laugh before tasting the mango baow slushie. He then stopped at the fried banana booth, where the owner ran up to hug him, saying he had been waiting since 6 p.m. and was happy to see him again. The Prime Minister replied, “Do you know I came here three more times after the flood?” and added, “You made me famous.”
Additional reports noted that during the Hat Yai floods in late November 2025, Prime Minister Anutin visited the area. While riding through floodwaters, the fried banana shop owner had someone bring fried bananas to the Prime Minister’s car. When Anutin picked one up, it slipped and fell to the ground, but he bent down to pick it up and eat it, which sparked some social media criticism. This led the Prime Minister to jokingly tell the shop owner that he had made him famous.
