The government is unlocking the potential of people with disabilities by organizing a career expo that transforms them from aid recipients into active economic contributors, leveraging AI technology and digital skills to enhance employment. The initiative is set to continue in Korat in mid-September.
On 1 September 2026, Captain Phatdarasmi Thongsaluaykorn, Deputy Spokesperson of the Prime Minister's Office, announced that the government, through the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security, is advancing efforts to unlock the potential of people with disabilities by shifting their role from recipients of assistance to economic drivers. Collaborating with partner networks, they are hosting the major event “Job and Market Fair: 2026 Career Expo for People with Disabilities” under the theme “Creative Skills, Unlimited Opportunities” to accelerate sustainable employment and career opportunities nationwide.
The government emphasizes workforce adaptation in the digital era. Therefore, this event focuses on up-skilling and re-skilling future-oriented abilities such as applying AI, creating digital content, online marketing, e-commerce, and modern business management. This opens new work opportunities including remote jobs and freelance careers, helping to overcome mobility and physical environment limitations faced by people with disabilities.
The Deputy Spokesperson added that the event is held both centrally and regionally. The central event's final day is today (1 September) at Building B, Chaeng Watthana Government Complex, featuring over 428 network booths participating in job matching, innovation and technology exhibitions for people with disabilities, markets selling products and services, welfare rights consultations, and real-skill workshop areas.
For the regional events, the expo will travel to other provinces, with plans to hold the career expo for people with disabilities next at Nakhon Ratchasima Province on 12–13 September 2026 at MCC Hall, The Mall Nakhon Ratchasima. The event aims to accommodate over 12,000 participants nationwide both onsite and online.
Captain Phatdarasmi stated that the government aims to shift societal perceptions to recognize that disabilities are not limitations on potential. With appropriate skills and opportunities, every person with disabilities can grow into entrepreneurs and high-performance workers who help drive Thailand's economy. She invited employers, businesses, and the public to participate in this expo to create opportunities and further develop the potential of people with disabilities toward stable income.
