Governor Chatchat inspected the early morning fire at the Makkasan community, initially reporting damage to 15 houses. He ordered the establishment of a temporary shelter and instructed officials to closely care for affected residents.
On 1 Sep 2026 at 05:00, Governor Chatchat Sitthiphan of Bangkok Metropolitan Administration visited the site to assess the situation and encourage residents affected by the fire in the Makkasan community, Sukhumvit 3, Makkasan subdistrict, Ratchathewi district. The fire started around 02:35, and firefighters from several stations responded and controlled the blaze by 03:17.
Initially, about 15 houses were damaged, and there was one reported fatality. The cause and details of the incident are still under investigation.
Governor Chatchat said he had originally planned to go for a morning run but changed his plans upon receiving the fire report. He went to the site immediately to assess the situation and meet the affected residents, emphasizing, “This is a thousand times more important than running; we must prioritize taking care of the people first.”
Governor Chatchat inspected the surrounding area, consulting with officials and residents, and urged close safety monitoring due to structural damage from the fire. The Ratchathewi district office established a temporary shelter at Wat Disahangaram (Wat Makkasan) for those unable to return home. The BMA provided drinking water, food, fans, bedding, toilets, and bathing facilities, coordinating with relevant agencies to assist. Currently, about 20–25 families, approximately 50 people, are staying at the shelter.
Governor Chatchat also instructed relevant agencies to inspect building and area safety, develop plans to support over 120 children at the affected child development center, protect the belongings of evacuated residents, coordinate with police to facilitate filing reports, and explore housing options for those still unable to return home.
