Worasit Reports Receiving Notification of Fire at Makkasan Community, Urges Bangkok to Expedite Risk Area Surveys

Worasit reported that he has received the fire incident report from the Makkasan community and has urged the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration to expedite risk area surveys following the frequent fires, noting that prevention is better than having to fix problems afterward.

At 10:00 on 1 Sep 2026 GMT+7 at the 60th Anniversary Celebrations International Convention Center, Prince of Songkla University, Deputy Minister of Interior Worasit Liangprasert spoke about the fire at the Makkasan community on Sukhumvit Soi 3. He stated that at 03:00, a fire was reported damaging 15 houses and causing one fatality. Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt has already visited the site, set up a relief center, and efforts are underway to determine the cause of the fire. Forensic examination is awaited, but initial inspections have been conducted in the area.

When asked about prevention measures amid the increasing frequency of fires, Worasit said that prevention must focus first on identifying the cause. Fires in communities may result from substandard or deteriorated electrical equipment. He emphasized that he has instructed Governor Chadchart and the BMA to urgently inspect high-risk areas, stressing that prevention is preferable to having to resolve issues afterward.
