The Cabinet resolved to review the venue for the World Horticultural Expo and relocate it to Pak Chong, indicating full readiness and an urgent push to develop a Master Plan to benefit the community.
On 1 September 2026, Lieutenant Colonel Phatdarasmi Thongsaluaykorn, Deputy Spokesperson for the Office of the Prime Minister, announced that the Cabinet approved revising its earlier decisions (from 16 Nov 2021 and 4 Jan 2022) to change the location of the 2029 World Horticultural Expo in Nakhon Ratchasima Province from the Khok Nong Rangka public forest area in Kong District to the Dairy Farming Research and Development Center in Pak Chong District, following a proposal from the Office of the National Economic and Social Development Council (NESDC).
In this relocation, the NESDC considered cost-effectiveness and various factors including transportation, utilities, accommodation, healthcare, tourist capacity, and site readiness. As Pak Chong is already Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives land, this substantially reduces government expenses for additional land acquisition. The event budget remains unchanged at 4.281 billion baht.
Furthermore, the Cabinet instructed an expedited preparation of the Master Plan and Legacy Plan for post-event land use to meet deadlines for demonstrating readiness to the International Association of Horticultural Producers (AIPH) by 4 September 2026 and obtaining approval from the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) by 6 October 2026, ahead of the official event opening on 10 November 2029. The English event name will be updated to "International Horticultural Expo 2029 Korat Thailand."
Regarding the original site in Kong District, the NESDC proposed that Nakhon Ratchasima Province, together with local communities and stakeholders, involve residents and farmers in developing plans to advance the area, aiming to create sustainable jobs, income, and improve the quality of life for local people.
