Chulapan revealed that the Cabinet gave the green light for social development, approving a 250 million baht budget to develop Hat Yai Hospital while accelerating solutions for labor problems and reducing educational inequality.
On 1 Sep 2026 GMT+7, Chulapan Amornwiwat, Minister of Labor, stated after the Cabinet meeting that the social dimension, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation Yotsanan Wongsawat, was approved by the Cabinet to address urgent issues through the Quick Win proposals. This aims to integrally improve citizens' quality of life, including enhancing Hat Yai Hospital's capacity. The Cabinet initially approved 250 million baht for studying and designing the hospital's development project, part of a total project budget exceeding 9 billion baht, to adequately meet the healthcare needs of the large urban population.
Chulapan said that regarding labor management and enhancement, the Ministry of Labor has been tasked with accelerating labor management in the five provinces linked to Malaysia. They will expedite the signing of an MOU between the two countries to reduce procedures and facilitate processes, and review foreign worker registration regulations to solve labor shortages in the area. Additionally, curricula to upgrade worker skills are being developed jointly with community colleges and local universities to align with market demands.
Chulapan added that there is also a desire to reduce the educational gap between schools under the Office of the Basic Education Commission (OBEC) and Islamic traditional schools (tadika). The government is promoting local administrative organizations to participate in budget support and is pushing forward the Zero Dropout project to bring children who have left the education system back into schooling.
Furthermore, the Cabinet approved the integration of government agency databases to assist vulnerable groups such as persons with disabilities, drug addicts, and out-of-school children. This aims to provide the government with unified and targeted mechanisms to care for and resolve these issues effectively.
