Minister Suchart signed the Ministry of Natural Resources announcement adding the Red-whiskered Bulbul (Pycnonotus jocosus) to the list of wildlife species prohibited from hunting in 40 wildlife sanctuary areas.
On 1 September 2026, the Government Gazette website publishedthe Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment announcement regarding the designation of 40 additional wildlife sanctuary areas to include the Red-whiskered Bulbul (Pycnonotus jocosus) in the list of protected wildlife species prohibited from hunting, B.E. 2569 (2026).
As the Red-whiskered Bulbul (Pycnonotus jocosus) inhabits wildlife sanctuary areas, which are designated to conserve habitats or feeding grounds for certain wildlife species, and this bird can be found in other wildlife sanctuary areas beyond the 58 areas already listed as no-hunting zones,
and following the resolution of the Wildlife Conservation and Protection Committee No. 2/2568 on 12 December 2025 approving the removal of the Red-whiskered Bulbul from the protected wildlife list under Section 7 of the Wildlife Conservation and Protection Act B.E. 2562 (2019), which may impact the species in 40 wildlife sanctuary areas not currently protected by the no-hunting list, it is necessary to strengthen measures to effectively prevent hunting of the Red-whiskered Bulbul.
Under the authority of Section 5 paragraph one and Section 62 of the Wildlife Conservation and Protection Act B.E. 2562, the Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, with the approval of the Wildlife Conservation and Protection Committee, therefore issues the following announcement.
Article 1: The following wildlife sanctuary areas are designated to add the Red-whiskered Bulbul (Pycnonotus jocosus) to the list of wildlife species prohibited from hunting:
