Governor Chatchat stopped to talk with homeless people at "Baan Imjai," stressing that staying there is not compulsory but encouraged as a place to rest, with the hope that residents can regain stability and eventually return to normal life. He appealed to the public to cooperate by avoiding distributing food on the streets.
On 2 Sep 2026 GMT+7, Governor Chatchat Sitthiphan of Bangkok visited "Baan Imjai," stating that it serves as a shelter for those facing economic hardship, lacking income or housing. The BMA invites people to stay voluntarily without forcing them, providing accommodation, food, bathrooms, laundry facilities, and health care so that residents are safe and have a chance to return to normal life.
He then spoke with residents about their living conditions and needs, including unemployed individuals, those facing economic problems, and elderly people needing assistance. He offered encouragement and support for them to use their time at Baan Imjai to recover physically and explore job opportunities.
One resident shared that previously they worked in construction contracting, electrical work, and ran a mobile phone repair shop. However, economic downturn and family losses caused income loss, making rent unaffordable and forcing them to live on the streets before coming to stay at Baan Imjai.
Governor Chatchat said homelessness is not caused by a single factor; some face personal problems, while many others result from unemployment or economic issues, which can happen to anyone without savings or security. When unexpected events occur, they may lack sufficient funds for housing. The BMA’s role is to act as a safety net to support those struggling. Baan Imjai provides a place to rest, sleep, eat, bathe, receive care, and find jobs. If people remain on the streets, chances of recovery are slim. Help must be systematic and integrated across social, health, and employment sectors. Those needing help can stay at Baan Imjai voluntarily. The BMA is ready to expand cooperation with agencies and sectors to enhance support capacity.
Governor Chatchat invited the public wishing to assist the homeless to bring food or items to donate at "Baan Imjai," ensuring aid reaches those in need directly. He requested cooperation to avoid distributing food on the streets, as this may cause street dwellers to remain in place rather than enter safe, continuous support systems.
