Ruttaphon Naowarat, Minister of Justice, commented on Lawyer Pattharapong Supakorn, or Lawyer Aun, filing a defamation lawsuit against him at the Criminal Court for defamation by advertising, concerning statements implying personal and family information causing harm. He said it is a positive development and he agrees with the lawsuit because it will bring evidence and facts before the court. He acknowledged that some social media and agencies quoted only brief parts of his full interview given on 25 Aug without considering the entire context. Furthermore, the clip Lawyer Aun posted on 21 Aug severely criticized him without reason and was not taken into account. He reaffirmed his support for this lawsuit to bring the truth to court consideration.
When asked about calls for his resignation as Minister of Justice and proceeding on ethical standards, Pol. Lt. Gen. Ruttaphon said it must be reviewed according to constitutional law to see if it falls under the relevant ethics articles.
Reporters asked if the issue from that day did not qualify as defamation. Pol. Lt. Gen. Ruttaphon said that in reviewing the full clip of his interview, many topics were discussed, including case files and MP Pawat Pongwitthayaphanu of the People's Party list MP, covering about three to four subjects. There was also a question about whether there was cause for anger. He explained that he does not know Lawyer Aun personally and was stating facts. Regarding his remarks asking for polite inquiries when following up, he noted that many people do question government work and his performance respectfully, which he can respond to, without insults. He suggested reviewing the clip Lawyer Aun posted on 21 Aug, where Lawyer Aun harshly criticized him for not knowing about the letter submitted to the Department of Special Investigation (DSI).
Pol. Lt. Gen. Ruttaphon confirmed he truly did not know because the letter was submitted to the DSI and not the Ministry of Justice. Had it been submitted to the ministry, he would have expedited it. He emphasized that as minister, he cannot interfere with case files. He urged for calm discussion and close follow-up, affirming that they are acting within the established framework.
