Pradorn is preparing to meet with the Deputy Minister of Interior to amend ministerial regulations, granting local authorities the power to set their own garbage collection fees following their requests.
At 11:10 a.m. on 2 Sep 2026 at the Parliament, Pradorn Prisananantakul, Minister attached to the Prime Minister's Office, received a letter from the President of the Subdistrict Administrative Organization Association requesting an extension of the ministerial regulation to maintain the 50-baht garbage management fee for another year, or to issue a ministerial regulation empowering local authorities to determine appropriate fee rates for their respective areas.
Pradorn stated that the current issue lies with the new ministerial regulation raising the garbage collection and disposal fee from 20 baht to 50 baht. For rural residents, the difference of 20 to 30 baht is significant. Therefore, the Association’s demand to review the 50-baht fee includes allowing local authorities to set their own fees—some areas might charge more than 50 baht, others less—depending on the community’s ability to pay. With decentralization, local authorities should have some decision-making power, but there should be a fee ceiling. He will discuss this with Worasit Liangprasit, the Deputy Minister of Interior responsible for this matter, to consult with the Department of Local Administration about making the regulations more flexible and adaptable for local governments. Amendments should not be annual temporary relaxations. Ultimately, the benefit is not for the Subdistrict Administrative Organization or local governments but to reduce the financial burden on rural citizens.
