Deputy Interior Minister Orders Metropolitan Waterworks to Delay Water Supply to New Data Center to Protect City’s Drinking and Usage Water

Deputy Interior Minister Je Seth has ordered the Metropolitan Waterworks Authority (MWA) to delay water supply to the new Data Center to prevent impacts on drinking and usage water in the city, while confirming that tap water remains sufficient.

2 Sep 2026 GMT+7 Mr. Je Seth Thaiset, Deputy Minister of the Interior, (Deputy Interior Minister, MoI 3) has instructed the Metropolitan Waterworks Authority (MWA) to temporarily delay the water supply to the new Data Center project. This will continue until clear water resource management guidelines are established to protect water security for residents in Bangkok, Nonthaburi, and Samut Prakan.

Je Seth revealed that although Data Center investments are key infrastructure driving the country’s digital economy, the project consumes very large amounts of water for cooling. The Ministry of Interior prioritizes the impact on citizens’ livelihoods and has therefore ordered MWA to urgently study details and develop comprehensive supporting measures.

Meanwhile, MWA is preparing appropriate operational guidelines to support the growth of the technology and digital economy sectors while maintaining stable and secure water supply services for the public. It also confirmed that the current tap water situation for residents remains sufficient, safe, and operating normally.
